Vitals examines the Covid crisis through the experience of a dozen frontline medical staff and patients at a Spanish hospital near Barcelona. Besides offering extraordinary access inside the hospital, the documentary follows the “heroes” home where they have to deal with the reality of their families lives under lockdown. It also introduces us to some of the relatives of the patients, some of whom are not going to survive the virus.
The protagonists include: Alfredo and Matilde were about to celebrate their 50th anniversary. That was before they were both came down with severe Covid symptoms and were hospitalized in the same room. While Alfredo is getting weaker. Matilde says an emotional goodbye, and is discharged, not knowing if she will ever see her husband again. Sandra and Noemí are nursing assistants. Their friendship is the most important thing they have within the hospital, and it gives them the strength to face the deaths they have to deal with on a daily basis.
