Synopsis

The disabled film director Niko von Glasow declares himself an enemy of sport and considers the Paralympic Games a total incongruity; he cannot understand how someone can set a goal like this, when the daily life of people with disabilities is already a daily challenge more than enough.

With these prejudices, von Glasow delves into the lives of 4 athletes and a volleyball team who compete in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. With them he talks about sport, but also about life and fears.

Increasingly drawn to this world, Niko attends the Paralympic Games in London and travels to the ancient city of Olympia, where it all began, and where boccia, a Paralympic sport, is banned.

Reviews

There is a fun atmosphere of empathy and a sense of humor that would not have been achieved otherwise. An intelligent way to make the idea of integration prevail over the typical story of improvement so often seen.

— Filmaffinity

My Way to Olympia is a much stronger film for addressing these uncomfortable themes. They throw the scenes of sporting success into sharper relief, and lend extra force to the overall celebratory sense of victory over steep odds.

— The Hollywood Reporter

We’re so used to seeing stories about people with disabilities presented in a certain way that Mr. von Glasow’s aggressive flouting of those conventions is a challenge for any viewer.
