At a time when Catalan and Spanish cinema is enjoying a particularly favourable period, with institutional support that is already beginning to yield tangible results and fiction films booming, documentaries continue to occupy a more uncertain space, their potential perpetually left half-realised. Is it realistic to speak today of a genuine resurgence of non-fiction in Spain? Or is documentary film still doomed to move forward, with varying degrees of friction, trailing behind the broader trends of the film industry as a whole?
Examining this context and with an eye on public policy, we’ll delve into this tension to explore whether the current moment could become a real turning point for non-fiction and leave behind the peripheral position that has all too often defined it.
As part of the conference, 3Cat, RTVE and XAL will announce the documentary projects—submitted under the joint call for proposals issued by the three public broadcasters—that have been selected to take part in the pitch sessions to be held at the Catalonia Audiovisual Market.
