Every year, thousands of people disappear without a trace in Japan. Known as the Johatsu, or "the evaporated," they abandon their lives for various reasons: a problematic relationship, mounting debts, or mafia threats. Some receive support from the so-called "night moving" companies that help people disappear and start a new life elsewhere, forming an entire industry in Japan. Their job is to discreetly rescue clients from unwanted situations, move their belongings, provide accommodation, and even jobs in secret locations. Johatsu follows the individual stories of some of these people who intentionally wish to disappear from their former identities.
