Júlia Izaguirre

Júlia Izaguirre is a documentary filmmaker based in Barcelona.

She studied Cinematography at ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya) and later completed a Master’s degree in Archiving at EQZE (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola).

She has worked on various film productions as a camera operator and researcher, developing a practice linked to both research and creation. At the same time, she teaches at ESCAC and Cinema en Curs.

Her work focuses on the creation of new languages and aesthetics based on documentary processes and stories. This research takes shape in her first project as a director, Utopías y otras especies, which premiered at the 67th edition of ZINEBI.

Behind the orchard that surrounds the squatted neighbourhood of Errekaleor, the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz grows with the construction of tall, new buildings. While its inhabitants resist the threats of eviction creating a collaborative network, other species grow in the orchard and begin a dialogue with the community.
