Daro Hansen

Journalist and filmmaker. She studied Journalism at Damascus University and worked as a journalist for various Syrian media. After moving to Denmark in 2010, she has applied her experience to film production. Daro Hansen has worked on numerous film and TV productions in Denmark (DR, Heartland, Fridthjof Film, SAM Productions, BullHouse, Kong Gulerod Film, among others) and internationally (Al Jazeera, Public Radio USA, TRT). She has worked as a cinematographer, creative and script consultant, editing assistant, and editorial staff member. In 2015, she worked with Omar Shargawi as a creative consultant on Al-Medina, and in 2018 with Josefine Kirkeskov as a script consultant on Lifeboat. In 2018, she co-founded the Syrian Doc Days film festival in Copenhagen. Since 2013, she has worked as a director and producer at Turning Tables. She has directed several short films and written short stories.

Twenty years of personal recordings form a raw journey from Damascus to Denmark. Daro agrees to an engagement to protect her family, but ends up trapped in a forced and abusive marriage. After fleeing abroad, the war in Syria erupts in 2011, leading her to engage in the refugee crisis and confront her past.
