Chouwa Liang

Chouwa Liang is a documentary filmmaker based in Beijing. She graduated from the Documentary program at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. Since 2018, she has directed several short documentaries and one feature documentary.
Her work often explores the shifting dynamics of intimacy in contemporary Chinese society, particularly from a female perspective.
Her short films have been featured on platforms such as The New York Times Op-Docs, Aeon (US), and PBS Rhode Island.

She is also active in curatorial work. She curated the Mother Film Festival from 2022 to 2025. She also founded the “Mama Makes Films” workshop, a creative platform that encourages Chinese mothers to share their voices through making documentaries.
