'Smoke Sauna Sisterhood' wins best documentary at European Film Awards

The documentary 'Smoke Sauna Sisterhood' won the award for Best Documentary at the 36th European Film Awards (EFA) held on Saturday 9 December in Berlin. The award is a new success for a documentary with a brilliant career. Since its release, the film has been nominated for several awards and has been screened at several festivals such as DocsBarcelona 2023, where it was the opening film and was very well received by the audience.

The director Anna Hints went up to accept the award and, instead of giving a speech, she decided to sing. Beforehand, however, she encouraged her team and the audience to join her, because "you never make films alone, but together", she concluded before starting to sing the song.

The Estonian documentary had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where Anna Hints won an award for Best Director in the World Cinema Documentary category.
