Tonislav Hristov was born in Vraza, Bulgaria in 1978. He studied engineering at the Technical University of Ruse. In 2003 he moved to Helsinki and started to study film. The Magic Life of V is his sixth feature-length documentary. His previous documentary, The Good Postman, premiered in the IDFA feature-length competition 2016 and was also screened in the Sundance World Documentary Competition in 2017. It was nominated for the European Film Award 2017. In his second documentary Rules of Single Life (2011), he explored his divorce from his then wife and that of his friends. Hristov’s third documentary Soul Food Stories (2013) about a multi-ethnic group of Bulgarian villagers philosophizing about life over dinner, was nominated for the Best Mid-Length Documentary at IDFA in 2013. His work has been shown at Sundance, Tribeca, Karlovy Vary, Sarajevo Film Festivals, IDFA, Hot Docs, Visions du Réel Nyon, Busan International Film Festival and many others.
