Susana Casares is a Spanish filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She writes, directs and produces fiction and documentary projects in the USA, Latin America and Spain. She was a writer on the acclaimed Netflix / MGM series, "Luis Miguel: La Serie", where she served as Co-Executive Producer. She was nominated for a Goya Award for her short film "La invitación" and she was showcased in Variety as Spanish Talent on the Rise. Her work as a writer and director has also received the support of festivals and institutions such as the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, HBO, Starz, the Tribeca Film Institute, Berlinale, Film Independent, and the Instituto Cervantes. Recently, she developed projects for Mediapro Studios and Dopamine. She is currently working on a one-hour coming of age thriller for Gaumont US, which has just sold to HBO Max. She is also preparing her feature film debut with Fasten Films in Spain. Past work includes L.A. LIES, a 30-minute comedy that she sold to Movistar+. She has been a consultant for several festivals and funds, including the Tribeca Film Institute and the Sundance Film Institute, as well as for production companies such as The Immigrant in Los Angeles.
Susana has a Masters of Fine Arts from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, having received a scholarship from La Caixa Foundation. She has taught Directing and Producing at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, at UCLA Extension, and at NYFA in Los Angeles.
